PROJEKT RAKIJA

(Netherlands)

gypsy / sevdahlinka / balkan

A music group around the Bosnian guitar player Igor Sekulovic, who try to bring new life into the Sevdalinka by combining this ancient Bosnian blues with a 'high-energy' mixture of groovy beats, exuberant Balkan horns and screaming rock guitar.

They mix balkan sounds with rock, electronics, reggae and dance. They are known for their very energetic shows and an innovating and original sound. A real cross over band that brings new sound to balkan music and keeps moving all night! The band released their first album in April 2013. It came out on Vinyl, Cd and their own graphic novel. The band is not only based on music but also creating new visual art.

In fact, Project Rakija combines not only musicians from different countries, but individuals from very different fields – animators, painters, photographers, designers and even hairdresser. They are all a big family. They are a community of creatives, young talents and old hands, who provide their skills to let the good times roll, because there is always a good reason to party, make music, and enjoy food and drinks (and hopefully make some money as well).

Their first album got international success, so this year Projekt Rakija had a big festival tour and played on major festivals like:

Festival Mundial (NL) (Parkpodium MainStage)
Zwarte Cross (NL) (Megatent)
Wild Mint Festival Moscow (RUS) (MainStage)
Welcome To The Village (NL)
Sziget Festival (HUN) (Closing The World Vilage Stage)
and many more.

The Best band at International Gipsy Festival Tilburg

Welcome to the Family!
